Short Description
A rectangular cushion comprising a layered system of gel and viscoelastic foam. The manufacturer states that the pressure reducing properties of the Bari-Gel cushion will prevent and treat up to Stage II pressure ulcers. It is designed for people who are chair bound and weighing up to 385kg. Available in one size.

MATERIALS
. A "domed" gel chamber spans the entire front portion of the cushion. This chamber is designed to prevent patients from sliding forward while sitting in the cushion.
. Four ties anchor the Bari-Gel Cushion to the wheelchair or other seating surface.
. The bottom is covered with a slip resistant material, which, when combined with the ties will prevent the Bari-Gel from shifting and sliding upon ingress and egress.

Factors To Consider
All cushions must be monitored to prevent 'bottoming out'. This occurs when the user's weight bears down so hard on the product material that it is flattened and the bony parts are pressed against the surface below the cushion. Where bottoming out occurs even with correct use (eg correct choice and depth of foam, correct inflation level) , a different product may need to be considered.
The gel cells on the top layer of a cushion can be punctured
Ensure that the item is not accidentally placed upside down or back to front
