Short Description
This is a comprehensive guide to pregnancy, childbirth and parenting
written by Sandie Waddell, a young woman in New Zealand with a spinal cord injury. She wrote the book based on her experiences as a
prospective and actual parent, and the experiences of 23 other women
with disabilities.

More Details
. The book is written in the first person and Ms Waddell recounts her
experiences not only as a parent but also as a prospective parent,
discussing topics such as making the decision to consider pregnancy, reasons for and against, and actually becoming pregnant.
. She describes some of the more common problems that can arise during pregnancy, particularly for women with a spinal cord lesion including recurrent urinary tract infections, incontinence and resulting skin care problems, occasional occurence of premature labour and/or not being aware that labour has commenced.
. Supporting all formal text is Ms Waddell's own memories and experiences, and often this is recounted with great humour and honesty.
. The book goes on to discuss the first, second and third trimesters of
pregnancy, paying particular attention to the specific needs of women with a spinal cord lesion. Many of her practical suggestions may well
also be of benefit to women with a disability other than a spinal cord
lesion.
