Short Description
Financial allowance for carers of a person or child who is very frail, has severe dementia, a long term illness or has a disability and would otherwise require nursing home care.

CARER ALLOWANCE (CHILD)
Helps parents or carer to care for children with a disability at home. It replaces the former Child Disability Allowance.
Not means tested, is tax free, separate from other benefits provided through Centrelink.
Must live with child being cared for & provide continuing care.
Benefit is $92.40/fortnight as at 05/05.
CARER PAYMENT
Need to meet an income and assets test and obtain a doctor or health professional report to establish eligibility.
Benefit is $476.30/fortnight single and $397.70 ea/fortnight for a couple. Note these payments are only a guide.
