Short Description
The Australian Outward Bound Foundation is an adventure based
educational organisation. It operates on a non-profit basis. Courses are designed to challenge individuals to feel stronger and more confident and able to take on the challenges of life back at home. Programs are offered to young people and adults and there are courses offered for those with a physical or intellectual disability. There is also a motivational programme for young people with low self esteem.

DISABLED / ABLE BODIED COURSES:
Duration - 9 days
Age - 16+ years
. You may think using a wheelchair or being sight impaired prohibits you from having a wilderness adventure. If you want a wilderness vacation and want to try something you didn't think was possible, Discovery Programs can help make your dreams a reality. People with disabilities and those without disabilities join together to form a special Outward Bound experience. The program will engage people in activities which are physically and emotionally challenging. As with every Discovery Program experience, this course is designed to appropriately challenge each individual and the group as a whole. Participants should be able to maintain personal care or have an accompanying carer.
INTELLECTUALLY DISABLED COURSES:
Duration - 9 days
Age - 16+ years
These courses are designed to meet the needs of individuals with mild to moderate intellectual disability. Whether setting up a campsite, abseiling or rafting, the course will focus on:
. Increased self confidence
. Giving a sense of achievement, success and fun
. Learning greater independence and autonomy
. Improved social interaction, co-operation and communication skills
The courses are structured so as to enable time for instruction to be kept simple and practical. High staff ratio enables participants to have the opportunity to be able to experience all Outward Bound activities fully.
Participants should be able to maintain independent personal care.
CUSTOMISED DISCOVERY COURSES:
Duration - 1-22 days
Age - 12+ years
For over 20 years we have been designing courses to meet the needs of your organisation. We have considerable experience in tailoring therapeutic and educational programs for specific populations including physically disabled, intellectually disabled, visually impaired, hearing impaired, medical conditions (for example, asthma, diabetes) and rehabilitation (for example, acquired brain injury). In consultation with our specialist senior staff member, a program will be designed to meet the aims and objectives of your group or organisation.
