Short Description
There are a number of options for controlling and operating lights when the standard rocker methods are difficult or where personal safety in the home or against an intruder is an issue.

Points to Consider:
. methods of operation
. flexibility fo function eg. manual as well as remote control
. adjustablility of time before switch-off occurs
. need for dimming capacity as well as on-off function
. operation ra ge of remote control unit
. 'field of view' of infra-red detector
. sensitivity setting (light level at which unit will operate)

Features
. automatic light switch which comes on when someone enters the room and turns off when person leaves. (Operated by an infra-red detector). The time of delay before the light switches off and the light levels in which it operates can both be adjusted. Some brands are manually operated.

. touch dimmer switch with remote control option which turns lights on and off, or up and down in light intensity. Remote control unit is a small rectangular unit with a push button which has a 9 metre range from front of unit.

. large rocker switches which gently brighten to full intensity when turned on and gradually fade once turned off (10 - 30 secs) giving time to vacate room or get into bed.

Brand names of these controls are: Arlec, IPM, Clipsal, Scanelite (Utilux) mostly available through hardware and electrical retailers.
