POINTS TO CONSIDER WHEN BUYING SLIP-RESISTANT TILES:
. Area of use sometimes / always wet, eg bathroom / outdoor areas.
. Ease of cleaning - raised surfaces in shower areas may accumulate soap residue.
. Difficulty of installation - large tiles can make it harder to achieve a
suitable fall of floor in shower area.
. Porosity of tile.
. Small tiles, eg 50mm square provide greater areas of grout thus contributing to slip resistance of total surface.
. Tiles with textured finishes such as studs, carborundum, etc, increase slip resistance on a sloped surface and in constantly wet areas eg swimming pools.
. Existing glazed tiles may be treated with an applied etching solution which reduces slip for a nominated time (up to 5 years). See 81:38
For further information check Choice magazine, the yellow pages of the telephone book or talk to a retailer.

. These are general suggestions - if you experience considerable difficulty in performing activities of daily living, consult an occupational
therapist at a community health centre aged care assessment team, or make an appointment with the ILC.
