Short Description
A driving assessment may be required following an illness or injury where a persons ability to drive safely has been affected. A licence applicant or person with an existing licence must declare any condition to the ACT Road Transport Authority, who require a medical certificate and may request a driving assessment be completed.

More Details
The assessment has two components - an off-road and on-road assessment.

The off-road assessment is conducted by an occupational therapist to identify any factors that may impact on driving, or be useful for retraining or modification considerations. This part of the assessment takes up to two hours.

The on-road assessment is conducted following the off-road assessment and is conducted in a dual control car with a driving instructor and an occupational therapist. This part of the assessment takes up to one and a half hours.

Following the assessment recommendations are made, including a report to the driving authority and other relevant parties agreed to eg GP.
