Short Description
This scheme assists eligible people with the cost of taxi travel. Travel can be in regular or wheelchair accessible taxis. You are eligible if you live in the ACT, are aged 16 or over and are unable to use public transport because of a severe disability.

HOW DOES IT ASSIST?
Vouchers are issued to members which may be used to pay part of the cost of taxi fares. Members must pay the rest of the fare themselves.
There are two levels of subsidy:
- 75% for individuals who always use a wheelchair for mobility outside the home.
- 50% for all other eligible individuals.
Only one voucher is necessary per trip. Each subsidy will be paid on metered fares up to $34 and the member will pay the balance, including the full cost of any portion of the fare above $34.
HOW DO I APPLY?
Fill in an application form and have your doctor sign it to show you have a disability which prevents you from using public transport.
ELIGIBILITY
. must be a permanent resident of the ACT.
. aged 16 years of older
. have a severe disability that prevents the use of public transport
. not be a member of an interstate taxi scheme
A severe disability includes:
- severe mobility disability
- legal blindness as defined for social security purposes
- sever vision impairment
- cognitive/intellectual/severe psychiatric disability
- severe and uncontrolled epilepsy
HOW DO I USE THE SCHEME?
Ring Canberra Cabs on 13 2227 and give the following information:
whether you need a wheelchair accessible taxi (i.e. one with a hoist or ramp)
whether you need help getting into or out of the taxi
where you want to be picked up
when you want to be picked up
where you want to go
how many people will be travelling.
Explain that you will be using vouchers form the Taxi Subsidy Scheme.
Sign the voucher in front of the taxi driver.
