Item sourced from ILC ACT database

Picture

Short Description
This vehicle wheelchair mechanical lock down system consists of a docking plate mounted into a vehicle floor, and an insertion plate that can be fitted to the base of most manual and powered wheelchairs (with an occupant). It uses a push button control to lock and release the wheelchair restraint. It can also be used on scooters (without an occupant) if suitable points of attachment are available.

More Details
Floor Anchor Point
A steel base plate is fitted to the floor.
This may be fitted to existing wheelchair accessible vehicles, or new vehicles.

Wheelchair Restraint
A steel plate is fitted to the base of the wheelchair. It is pointed at the front and designed to insert into the base plate fixed to the vehicle floor. A button is used to lock the device into place. A beeping sound confirms it is locked.
Another button releases the lock so the wheelchair can be removed.
The manufacturer says the base plate may be fitted to 95% of manual and powered wheelchairs.

Occupant Restraint
A standards approved seatbelt attached to the vehicle is required to be worn by the occupant.

Safety Features
Refer to the supplier and manufacturer manual for maintenance instructions and safety warnings.
A mechanical emergency release lever is located in the vehicle for if the standard controls do not work.
The device has been fully crash tested and has several built in safety features. The occupant must wear an Australian Standards approved seat belt attached to the vehicle.

Caution
This wheelchair restraint system can reduce the need to bend and reach to lock down the wheelchair.
A plate permanently attaches to the base of the wheelchair, which may affect its weight, and may be an obstruction in some situations.

Standards
Some assistive technology needs to meet Australian or other standards. Standards may relate to materials, manufacturing and installation. Products that meet Australian or international standards will have written certification. To find out if a product meets Australian Standards ask the supplier to show you the certificate.
