Short Description
A range of pressure relieving cushions for use in wheelchairs, chairs, cars and bed. The cushions are made from either a Hi-Tek Akton Polymer Gel which conforms to body shape for cushioning or a combination of the gel and foam. Five models in various sizes are available.
Caution
- Do not clean with alcohol as it can cause the surface to harden.
- Some of the cushions are heavy and may be difficult for people to move.
- The cushions have a tendency to be cold. Cushions can be heated in warm water prior to use.
More Details
- Conforms to body shape, does not allow user to "bottom out".
- Reduces skin shear.
- Dissipates body heat.
- All models are supplied with a washable stretch knit cover with zipper and a non-skid material base.
- Some models incorporate carrying loops and a slip resistant backing.
- All the cushions/pads are easily cleaned with disinfectant not alcohol.
- These cushions can be used by people who have incontinence problems.
- The Pilot, and Centurian cushions may be useful for drivers as they are stable, low height and have good shock absorption.
- Children's sizes available on request.
- Polymer will not leak if punctured and will not absorb urine, body fluids or odours.

PROFESSIONAL CUSHION
A cushion / wheelchair pad designed for people who are immobile and sit for long periods of time and who are therefore at medium to high risk of developing pressure ulcers It is made from 100% Akton Polymer Gel and features rounded edges. Available in seven sizes and with a blue or black economy cover.
PILOT CUSHION
A cushion designed for people who are at low to medium risk of developing pressure ulcers. It is also made from 100% Akton Polymer Gel, and is half the thickness of the Professional Cushion. Available in eight sizes and with a blue or black economy cover.
CENTURIAN CUSHION
A cushion designed for people who at low to medium risk of developing pressure ulcers but require more stability. It is made from equal layers of Akton Polymer Gel and Foam. Available in seven sizes and with blue economy cover.
COMMUTER CUSHION
A cushion made from 12mm of Akton visco-elastic polymer bonded to 45mm of urethane foam. The cushion has been designed to provide comfort for people who are at low risk of developing pressure ulcers.
The economy cover with a slip resistant base comes in blue or black.
X-ACT CONTOURED CUSHION (see 43.63.012)
A contoured positioning and equalisation cushion available in many sizes. Includes a cube pad. Can be cut to dimensions and shape required.
ECONOMY CUSHION COVERS
Made from a stretch fabric with a slip resistant base.
Available in a variety of colours for each model.
SMART SHEAR PAD
A flexible visco elastic polymer pad with a black breathable Shear Smart cover. The pad has a cubed grid construction. Combined with the cover it is used to provide basic shear protection. The supplier states this cushion is suitable for people at low risk of developing pressure sores. Available in one thickness and in seven standard sizes. Customised sizes are available.
