Short Description
A three wheeled manual wheelchair suitable for use over rough and uneven outdoor terrain. It is designed for active people with good upper body strength. An optional handlebar allows attendants to push more less active users. Seat tilt, brake steering system, variable wheel camber and golf umbrella are standard. The umbrella attaches to the base of the seat but can be mounted on the optional handlebar.

Price Guide
Refer to supplier details for pricing.

More Details
Frame
Construction is carbon fibre, anodised or powder coated aluminium and stainless steel. The carbon fibre monocoque chassis can be reclined to suit the terrain.
(Monocoque, meaning 'single shell' in French, is a construction technique that utilises the external skin to support some or most of the load.)
Nitrogen gas suspension.
All components are attached to the seat.

Upholstery
Four piece 15mm Velcro attached foam padding - Lycra (or optional Suede)

Seat
One size 'fits most teens to adult' seat width 410mm excluding basic foam liner (included). Seat width is variable by padding. The seat angle is set, in chair via an adjustable nitrogen shock absorber.
Carbon fibre sculptured black seat has a curved anatomical shape, designed to suit the user's body. A basic lycra covered foam liner is included.

Cushions
Four stages of seat cushioning are available
1) Standard 15 mm foam upholstery as detailed above.
2) Dedicated Qbitus 50mmFoam Cushion
3) Dedicated ROHO Low Profile inflatable cell Pressure Cushion
4) Dedicated ROHO High Profile inflatable cell Pressure Cushion

Backrest
For descending: the backrest is tipped back via the shock valve and more weight is on the castor.
The brake lever is used for secure speed control.
For ascending: the backrest tips forwards to avoid instability and increase front wheel traction.
As the backrest is tipped back, via the Nitrogen release valve, the footrest rises for the maximum ground clearance. The ground clearance is deliberately limited to discourage users from trying extreme terrain.

Wheels
Two large quick release wheels at the front that can take mountain bike tyres. A smaller wheel is located at the back.
All three tyres are pneumatic and available with puncture resistant technology.

The large rear castor (320mm diameter) can usually go over most obstacles.

The wheels have an easily adjustable camber so that the chair can have a slimmer profile for going through doorways and a wider (more stable) 24 degree camber for outdoor activities.
The wheel tilt can be easily altered by rotating a cross shaft underneath the seat: at its slimmest, the K2 is 710mm wide and when fully adjusted it broadens out to 870mm.

Brakes
There is a brake drum inside each wheel hub, which is operated by the brake levers. If travelling at speed or downhill and the left lever only is pulled, the chair will pull to the left, and vice-versa. However, caution and skill are required to avoid spinning around 360 degrees. In normal use, the chair is steered like a traditional chair, by differential pushing of the front push rims.

Folding
The chair is made from removable components that can be dismantled using conventional tools. The wheels come off, the footrest slides up, and the rear assembly unclips and folds against the seat back.

Options
The Dyna Brake (where the levers are mounted further forward), offers more powerful, yet more sensitive brake control.
Hook & loop attached suede upholstery (in lieu of the standard Lycra-covered)
Speedometer
Rear push bar
Seat belt
Wheel loops

Method Of Use
KERBS
There are two ways to negotiate kerbs. With the shock absorber set (adjustable in chair) in its lowest length, the footrest is raised and small kerbs (95mm at 24 degrees camber - 130mm at 0 degrees camber) can be approached from a forwards direction. The shock absorber adjustment is completely automatic and takes a short time to adjust. Larger kerbs can be taken by reversing. As the user leans forwards the chair tips onto the front anti tip rollers and at the same time, the rear castor rises off the ground. It is then possible to reverse the chair onto the kerb safely.
You can roll forwards off kerbs also, depending on the height and user confidence. See user manual for more details.

All kerb negotiation is determined by the users ability.

SAND
The chair can negotiate beaches. Sand ingress, however, may cause component damage over time. Component damage by failing to clean down after extensive use on sand will not be covered by warranty. (The manufacturer is upgrading the coverings to assist in prevention of sand ingress).

Models
Although there is one base model, the wheelchair is predominately split into two specifications, namely the ‘Active’, supplied with user controlled brakes, or the ‘Passive’, with handlebar mounted, attendant controlled braking.
Any combination is possible and active users often opt for rear handlebars (without attendant brakes levers fitted)
