More Details
A front opening bra, or a back opening bra cut down the front, can be used for adapting.
The following items can be used to assist in the adaptations.
* Firm tape
* Velcro 20mm wide
* D rings or Kempner fasteners.
* Large hooks and eyes

Method 1:
- Using a machine, sew a 50mm strip of the rough section of velcro at one end of tape.
- Sew a 100mm strip of smooth velcro approximately 500mm along from the rough section.
- Stitch the tape to the side of the bra aligned to the functioning hand (100mm from the bra opening).
- Attach a D ring with tape to the opposite side, or alternatively a Kempner fastener may be used.
- Large hooks and eyes are easier to secure along the front opening.

To use:
- Slip the bra strap over the affected arm first, then the unaffected arm (like putting on a cardigan).
- Position the bra, then slip tape through the ring or the Kempner fastener and draw back towards the unaffected side and press velcro together.
- Fasten together with hook and eyes.

Method 2:
- Cut two strong pieces of tape about 25mm wide and the length of the opening.
- Cut two pieces of velcro the required length.
- Sew the tape to each side of the front opening
- Sew the rough piece of velcro on top (facing outwards) of the tape on the half of the bra that fits the non functioning side of the body.
- Sew the soft side of the velcro to the underside of the other tape (facing inwards).
- Secure a piece of bias binding/tape about 200mm long in a loop fashion to the bottom edge of the half of the bra that fits the non functioning side of the body.

To use:
- Slip the bra over the affected arm first, then over the non-affected arm - like a cardigan.
- Slip the thumb of the non functioning hand through the loop and rest the hand over the stomach to the bra in position.
- Press the velcro strips together.

For illustrations of the above methods, please refer to the ILC Picturefile Folder.

Variation:
Instead of the two above methods - two velcro fasteners and two D rings across the front of the bra can be used.

Note:
When washing a garment with velcro fastening, ensure that the fastening is always closed.
