Grassrings

Short Description
Grassrings is a product used to reinforce grass surfaces to enable vehicles and wheeled mobility to travel over and park on grass areas. It is an injection moulded plastic structural grid system made from recycled plastic. Grassrings prevent compaction of the root zone of grass to maximise grass development. The base depth of the product varies dependent on whether the main traffic is pedestrian, cars or trucks.

Method of Use
The supplier recommends that a civil or geotechnical engineer be consulted to determine the design requirements for the gravel and sand road base.
Remove depth of soil to thickness of road base plus 35mm, level and compact area to the requirements of the engineer.
Add non plastic road base (crushed rock) to designed thickness and compact to test requirements. Subject to geotechnical requirements additional base course stability can be achieved by installation of Novagrid Geomesh below the road base material. This is used also to reduce road base depth.
Add and spread evenly a thin layer of coarse sand and wash into road base. Alternatively Novatex non woven geotextile membrane can be layed to prevent loss of fines into porous basecourse.
Roll out or lay Grassrings onto the prepared base.
After laying Grassrings, cut around valve boxes, sprinklers, trees or kerbing using cutting pliers or secateurs. Spread fertilisers over sand.
Apply clean sharp sand of suitable growing pH value to fill rings using a large broom to leave the top of the ring exposed, where roll on turf can be added. A further 15mm of top soil is required for seeding and hydro mulching.
For quick lawn establishment roll on grass is recommended by the supplier. On warm days the sand should be wet to reduce the temperature and provide a moist base for the grass roots.
Compact the lawn with a heavy roller to remove air pockets around the grass roots ensuring that the roots are set into the sand layer in the rings. Water and fertilise to suit weather conditions.

Factors to Consider
Provides a firmer base under grass on which to propel a manual wheelchair.
