Scanning Light Communicator

Short Description
This is a simple scanning communication device. It has four lights set in a 2x2 array, which light up sequentially on switch activation. Auditory feedback can be added so a single tone is produced as each light is lit up. The auto scan feature causes the lamps to move on if pressure is maintained on the switch. Any 6mm phono plug can be used to operate this scanner.

More Details
Physical Appearance
The whiteboard is surrounded by a wooden frame allowing it to be positioned vertically.
The four individual lights within the whiteboard are arranged in a 2x2 array, thus dividing the board into 4 cells.
The four lights are positioned in each corner of the frame so the light is in a different position for each cell.
Objects, photos, pictures or symbols can be added to each individual cell.
A whiteboard marker can be used to draw or write on each cell as the board is also magnetic.
Magnet symbols can be attached easily or pictures can be attached with plain magnets.

Scanning Options
Inverse automatic scanning is possible if the user keeps the switch activated.
Method of use
Using a single switch, the user starts the sequential scanning highlighting one item at a time.
The switch is activated for a second time when the desired item is lights up and this selects the item.

Auditory Feedback
Auditory feedback can be added so a tone is produced as each item is lit.

Power Source
This device uses four AA batteries.

Factors to Consider
A range of symbols can be easily added to this device that suit the individual cognitive abilities of the user.
