Short Description
A single switch operated scanning wheelchair controller. Plugs into the dynamic controls control box on most powered wheelchairs. Arrows representing 4 directions are sequentially lit. The user presses and holds the switch when the desired direction is lit and the chair will move in that direction until the switch is released. Requires switch with 3.5mm plug. Optional on/off latching switch.

Full Description
The Scandriver is suitable to use with most Australian made powered wheelchairs.

Features
It is encased in a grey, plastic rectangular box and comes with a 1.15m cord and a Hirschmann plug.
The plug will only fit a dynamic control box that allows a remote joystick to be plugged in eg. Centre Control, Attendant Control)
Different wheelchairs may require different plugs so this will need to be specified when ordering. (Eg. Hirschmann plug for Rollerchair)
When operating, it should be noted that the user needs to be able to hold the switch down to keep the chair in motion. Therefore a latching switch cannot be used. This is a safety precaution.
The switch used must turn off instantly when released by the operator.
Any delay in switching to the off state, such as that introduced by a latching switch, can endanger the user.

Mounting
The most common way to mount the Scandriver to the wheelchair is with double sided adhesive tape or adhesive backed Velcro.

Speed Adjustment
Should the wheelchair be required to travel faster or slower in any one direction there are two ways of adjusting the speed,
Adjustment of the dynamic controls controller by an appropriate technician.
Or
Adjustment of the Scandriver. Speed adjustment via the Scandriver is not recommended as it can generate errors in the control box. If it is necessary to use this technique instructions by the manufacturer are provided.

Veer Adjustment
The wheelchair will sometimes veer to one side when travelling in the forward direction.
This can be due to an imbalance in the wheel drive motors or the controller.
Tyre inflation pressures should also be checked to ensure they are the same.
The Scandriver can be adjusted to offset an imbalance and correct the veer. The manufacturer provides instructions. Only an experienced electronics technician must perform the procedure (failure to comply with this requirement may result in damage to the Scandriver and shall result in the warranty being voided).
Although veer adjustment is very useful it is not always entirely successful and some wheelchairs will require constant readjustment that can be frustrating to the user.

Method of Use
Any non latching switch with a 3.5mm plug can be used.
The user scans the lights on the Scandriver, which indicate direction.
When the desired direction is lit the user hits and holds the switch for as long as they wish to travel in that direction.
When the switch is released the wheelchair will stop.

Accessories
Latching on/off switch is optional for the user. The switch allows the user to independently switch the wheelchair on and off the switch.
The plate switch provided by Regency Park is approximately 50mm x 70mm and is an extra $100. This is a useful accessory for people who can use two switches.
