Unwin Scooter Restraint

Short Description
This vehicle scooter restraint consists of tracking mounted into a vehicle floor, webbing straps and locking devices. It is suitable for use on scooters only. Tracking and straps can be customised to accommodate a variety of scooter dimensions in multi user situations.

One model available only.

Price Guide
Refer to supplier information for pricing details.

Features
The restraint system consists of a webbing harness with four floor anchor points, adjustable straps and quick release buckles. The 'Y' shape of the harness is placed astride the front steering column and the seat post. The restraint secures the scooter to the vehicle. Scooters are transported unoccupied by the passenger. As the restraint system is comprised of webbing straps and locking devices, it is essential the restraint is placed in storage when not in use, as it can be damaged if run over by a scooter or walked on. The tracking needs to be cleaned on a regular basis (vacuumed, or brushed to remove any dirt) to ensure the restraint can lock into the tracking correctly.

FLOOR ANCHOR POINTS - Three types of aluminium tracking is available. Two are recessed into the floor, the Heavy Duty Rail and Low Profile Rail. The Surface Rail is fitted above the floor. The tracking is placed longitudinally.

RESTRAINT OF WHEELCHAIR - Consists of four webbing straps that are all adjustable in length and feature quick release buckles. At the end of each strap is the locking device that clips in place on the tracking.

Method Of Use
1. Place the complete restraint over the scooter with the 'Y' strap placed astride the front
steering column of the scooter (grey webbing).
2. Attach the front clips to the tracking, adjusting the webbing straps if necessary.
3. Adjust the (black) webbing straps to ensure that the rear clips fall equally to a point on the
tracking approximately 200mm from the rear of the scooter.
4. Attach clips to the tracking and tighten the straps until the scooter is firmly anchored in
place.

Caution
The webbing should be checked regularly for signs of wear or fraying. Nicks greater than 1mm necessitate replacement. The product must be replaced immediately after it has been worn during a collision. No restraint system is considered safe to use with the occupant of a scooter travelling while sitting in the scooter. The occupant must transfer to a normal vehicle seat for the journey.

Additional Comment
When purchasing a vehicle wheelchair restraint, consider also other vehicles in which the person may travel in their wheelchair (eg taxis, school bus etc.). This may influence the choice of restraint which is chosen for the family / individual's vehicle, as not all restraint fittings or modifications that are required on a wheelchair are compatible with all restraint systems.
