Factors to Consider
Recommend using BM Version 5 with SD Pro - especially if using symbols. SD Pro share features with BM for Windows Version 5 - including same drawing windows and board creation tools. Older versions of BM do not share these features with SD Pro.
If you have an old version of Boardmaker you can upgrade to new version of Boardmaker plus SD Pro at a reduced cost.
Has button magnification for low vision.
Ready made sets of language/communication displays are commercially available for SD Pro (at a cost - contact distributors)


Short Description
Speaking Dynamically Pro (SD Pro) is a Windows based program designed to aid communication using a computer (using either Macintosh or IBM compatible computer). SD Pro has both synthesized voice and/or recorded speech output that allows the computer to be used as a dynamic display communication device. Access via mouse, trackball, joystick, touch screen, alternate keyboard, head pointing device or switch and scanning (automatic, inverse or step scanning).

Voice Output
SD Pro comes with the English Microsoft Speech Application Programming Interface (SAPI) voices and additional software-based SAPI voices can be used with the program. Options to alter the speech volume, rate and pronunciation are available within the program.
Human recorded (synthezied) speech can also be used with SD Pro
Other sounds can be added if desired

Visual Display
Customizable language/communication displays can be designed to create a dynamic communication device
The program can be used with either text and/or symbols (if you are using Boardmaker - BM), pictures (graphics) or photos (pictures/photographs need to be imported into boards).
Separate software is required (ie. Boardmaker- BM) to use Picture Communication Symbols (version 5 of Boardmaker shares windows with SD Pro).
COMPIC can also be imported.
QuickTime movies can be imported into program
A variety of layouts are possible with different key sizes.
The program provides on-screen keyboards.
Text size, font and colour can be adjusted.
Text to speech and word processing features within program (with word prediction and abbreviated expansion functions).

Print Output
Pages made with Boardmaker (BM) can be printed out and used to make a non electronic communication board.

Accessing Options
The on screen display can be accessed directly or indirectly, using a standard or alternate keyboard, mouse, trackball, touchscreen, joystick, switch or head pointing device.
In built scanning options include step scanning, inverse scanning and auto scanning with visual highlighting and auditory feedback.

Programming
Creating new pages/boards/pop ups within SD Pro is easiest when used with BM.
Users familiar with BM will find learning to use SD Pro easier and when using symbols it is necessary to have BM.

Symbol Systems
There are no symbols as part of the program, except those on the sample boards. However, the program can be run with Boardmaker (Version 5 recommended although SD Pro with run with older version of Boardmaker) which has more than 3000 PCS symbols.

Other Specialised Features
Can play QuickTime movies.
Built-in word prediction allows up to 10 suggested words.
Abbreviation expansion uses letter sequences to store frequently used phrases, sentences and paragraphs.
