Factors to Consider
The pointer section does not interrupt field of vision and does not interfere with full view of the face.
Adjustability allows for growth, changing head size or multiple users.
Rear knob adjustment may cause abrasion or discomfort if client has a headrest on chair or wheelchair. A model with velcro rear closure is available if this is a problem.
Use of a headpointer requires the user to control head and neck movement and to perform these movements repetitively to access eg a computer keyboard. Using muscles in the neck for prolonged periods for precision tasks like typing can result in fatigue and strain in the neck and sometimes also the upper body.
When using a headpointer it is important that the user is well supported in chair or wheelchair to reduce further strain on the body.
The device being accessed needs to be fixed in a position that allows the person to reach all keys or controls with minimal effort. The most frequently used keys or controls should be positioned where the user has greatest control.
Sensitivity of the keyboard or controls may need to be adjusted for some users to reduce accidental activations.
A keyguard may assist some users to target keys more accurately.
The size of target keys or controls needs to be assessed for individual needs to ensure ease of access using the pointer.

Short Description
The AD 1, AD 2 and AD 3 headpointers are made from lightweight materials and are fully adjustable. The pointer is shaped like a wishbone. A yoke is attached to an adjustable headband at the temple of the wearer and the pointer or wand extends from the yoke in front of the chin. An adjustable chinstrap secures the headband. The AD 1 model has a rear knob adjustment to suit adults. The AD 2 Tiny Tot is designed for young children with a rear strap adjustment. The AD 3 has a rear strap closure and is suitable for children aged 6 to 7 years to adults. The rear strap allows the user to rest against a headrest without discomfort.
