Factors to Consider
Angling the base of the backrest (vanity flap) backwards allows excess posterior tissue to extend behind the seat. It also promotes thoracic extension and contact with the backrest without requiring a correction of the seat depth.
Short Description
The Jay 2 Plus Back is designed for bariatric users and replaces the backrest upholstery on a wheelchair. The back shell is bi angular enabling the base (vanity flap) to be angled backwards away from the upper portion of the back support. This accommodates soft tissue while maintaining back support to the upper body. It is adjustable in overall width and the design of the backrest promotes air circulation. A range of additional postural supports can be added.

Features
The backrest shell features a series of slots combined with a spacer fabric lining in the air exchange cover to promote air circulation.
The backrest features a central recess to accommodate the natural contour of the spinal column.
The adjustable sliding growth plate provides up to 75mm adjustment in width.
The backrest is able to be angled up to 12 degrees in a backward direction (posterior tilt) and 3 degrees in a forward direction (anterior tilt).
A foam support covers the backrest shell. On the underside of the foam in the pelvic region are three pockets in which additional supports can be placed. The inserts are accessible through a zippered closure. The two inserts at either end can be extended through side pockets to allow for growth.
Hook and loop (Velcro) attachment flaps are featured on the top and bottom of the cover. They are designed to fold over the backrest shell and secure at the rear of the backrest so the cover and foam cushion stay in place.
The Jay 2 Plus Back is removable from the wheelchair via releasing the positioning pins, rotating the back forwards and lifting up.
Two models are available covering two different width ranges being 500 to 580mm and 580 to 660mm.
