Roho Nexus Spirit Cushion

Factors to Consider
There are many things to consider when selecting pressure care products including nutrition, skin moisture, level of mobility, age, shear, friction, location of pressure ulcer (if present) and hygiene. Any comments regarding level of pressure care is a suggestion made by suppliers as a guide to assist with selection, and this may differ from brand to brand. When selecting pressure care products it is strongly advised that a comprehensive assessment is undertaken by a health professional to encourage correct product selection and monitoring of product effectiveness.
The foam base may provide increased stability when completing transfers in and out of the cushion.
The contour of the foam base may enhance positioning of the pelvis and the lower extremities.
This cushion requires ongoing maintenance to ensure correct inflation levels of the support pad.

Short Description
This cushion consists of a contoured foam base with a Roho Dry Flotation support pad inserted into the rear well area of the cushion. The foam base is designed to increase cushion stability and enhance positioning, and the Dry Flotation pad is designed to provide pressure reduction to the ischial, sacrum and coccyx regions. The manufacturer states that this cushion is designed for users at moderate risk of skin breakdown.

Price Guide
Refer to supplier details for pricing.

More Details
Material
The Dry Flotation support pad is made of flame resistant neoprene rubber.
The Dry Flotation support pad can be washed with soap and water or can be steam autoclaved.
The foam base is made from flame resistant polyurethane foam. The foam base may be wiped down for cleaning.

Cover
The fluid resistant cover is removable and machine washable. It is made from two way stretch material.

Dry Flotation Technology
The manufacturer states there are 4 principles of the Dry Flotation Technology.
Roho cushions are constructed of individual cells that can move independently of each other, enabling the cushion to move with the user and contour to their shape.
The manufacturer states that the cellular design enables the user to immerse into the cushion creating low surface tension.
The manufacturer states that as a result of immersing into the cushion, forces and pressures pushing back against the person are kept equal at all points, resulting in greater contact area between the user and cushion.
The manufacturer indicates that the design of the surface of each cell as well as the ability of cells to move independently reduces friction and shear forces.

Features
The neoprene rubber of the support pad is able to be patched or repaired if required due to punctures.
The manufacturer states that the separate air cells facilitate air circulation.
The cushion is provided with a cover, repair kit, hand inflation pump and operating instructions.

Adjustment
It is recommended that professional advice be sought prior to and during inflation of the support pad to ensure appropriate use and inflation levels.
Place the cushion on the chair or wheelchair on which it is to be used correct side up with access to the air valve which is placed on one side of the cushion underneath the foam base.
Open the air valve by turning counter clockwise.
Place the flexible hose of the hand pump over the valve and over inflate the support pad so it begins to slightly arch upwards.
Remove the pump and quickly close the air valve by turning it in a clockwise direction.
The user needs to sit centrally on the Roho cushion ensuring posture is correct.
Open the air valve allowing air to be released and the user to immerse into the cushion.
The manufacturer states that there should be approximately 1.25cm of air between the lowest bony prominence of the user and the bottom of the cushion (this may be gauged by placing a hand between the lowest bony prominence of the user and the cushion).
Pinch the air valve to prevent any more air escaping and then close.

Application
The manufacturer states this cushion is most effective for users who
Are at moderate risk of skin breakdown
Experience chronic pain
Require increased stability for transfers
Require some support for lower extremity positioning
Are able to perform independent weight shifts.
