Roho Low Profile Single Compartment Cushion

Factors to Consider
There are many things to consider when selecting pressure care products including nutrition, skin moisture, level of mobility, age, shear, friction, location of pressure ulcer (if present) and hygiene. Any comments regarding level of pressure care is a suggestion made by suppliers as a guide to assist with selection, and this may differ from brand to brand. When selecting pressure care products it is strongly advised that a comprehensive assessment is undertaken by a health professional to encourage correct product selection and monitoring of product effectiveness.
As a result of air being able to circulate throughout the entire cushion, it allows the cushion to constantly conform to the shape and movements of the user. This allows the cushion to adapt to individual needs and posture.
Movement within the cushion may result in instability for some users.
The low profile cushion may assist a user who foot propels their wheelchair by not raising the seat height as much as the high profile version.

Short Description
This cushion consists of a series of air filled cells which can move independently. The manufacturer reports this as being Dry Flotation technology, enabling the user to be immersed in the cushion and be supported by air. This cushion consists of a single air compartment, enabling air to flow and redistribute throughout the entire cushion in response to the shape and movement of the user. It features low profile cells to reduce the overall height of the cushion, and is designed for a user at moderate to high risk of skin breakdown.

Price Guide
Refer to supplier details for pricing.

More Details
Material
The cushion is made of fire resistant neoprene rubber.
The cushion can be washed with soap and water or steam autoclaved.

Cover
The cover consists of two way stretch material.
It is removable and machine washable.
Slip resistant material is featured on the base of the cover.

Dry Flotation Technology
The manufacturer states there are 4 principles of the Dry Flotation Technology.
Roho cushions are constructed of individual cells that can move independently of each other, enabling the cushion to move with the user and contour to their shape.
The manufacturer states that the cellular design enables the user to immerse into the cushion creating low surface tension.
The manufacturer states that as a result of immersing into the cushion, forces and pressures pushing back against the person are kept equal at all points, resulting in greater contact area between the user and cushion.
The manufacturer indicates that the design of the surface of each cell as well as the ability of cells to move independently reduces friction and shear forces.

Features
The neoprene rubber is able to be patched or repaired if required due to punctures.
The manufacturer states that the separate air cells facilitate air circulation.
The cushion is provided with a cover, repair kit, hand inflation pump and operating instructions.

Adjustment
It is recommended that professional advice be sought prior to and during inflation of the cushion to ensure appropriate use and inflation levels.
Place the cushion on the chair or wheelchair on which it is to be used correct side up with the air valve at the front of the cushion (located in one corner).
Open the air valve by turning counter clockwise.
Place the flexible hose of the hand pump over the valve and over inflate the cushion so it begins to slightly arch upwards.
Remove the pump and quickly close the air valve by turning it in a clockwise direction.
The user needs to sit centrally on the Roho cushion ensuring posture is correct.
Open the air valve allowing air to be released and the user to immerse into the cushion.
There should be approximately 40mm of air between the bony prominences of the user and the bottom of the cushion (this may be gauged by placing a hand between the bony prominences of the user and the cushion).
Close the air valve.

Application
The manufacturer states that the Low Profile Single Compartment cushion is most effective for users who
Are at moderate to high risk of skin breakdown
Have no or partial sensation
Propel their wheelchair with their feet.
