Short Description
In South Australia, if a person has an illness or an injury which is likely to affect driving abilities, the person and the person's medical practitioner must advise the medical clerk of the motor registration board, who will determine if the person's licence should be cancelled, suspended or continued.

Features
If a person's doctor is uncertain about the person's ability to drive, referral to a specialist assessment unit may be suggested. Reports from occupational therapists, optometrists or ophthalmologists, neurologists or neuropsychologists may also be required to determine a person's ability to commence or recommence driving.
Following an assessment, a full or restricted licence with conditions, ie spinner knob, automatic car, may be issued. Alternatively, further tuition or licence suspension may be recommended depending on the person's performance.
