Wheelchair Boot Slider - in use

Short Description
The Wheelchair Boot Slider is designed to assist in lifting up a wheelchair and sliding it into the boot of a car. It consists of three components: a boot blanket, a slider and a ground protector.

Price Guide
Refer to supplier information for pricing details.

More Details
There are three components:
1.) The BOOT BLANKET. The lower half of the nylon blanket contains five foam pads which are stitched into the cover to protect the rear lip of the boot from damage when handling the wheelchair. Three of the pads are covered on the under surface by a slip resistant material to secure the blanket during transfers. One pad on the upper surface is also covered by a slip resistant material.
The other half of the nylon blanket is a thinner section to go inside the boot. This provides a slippery surface for the wheelchair to slide on, when putting it into, or taking it out of the car. Two plastic battens are stitched into both sides of the blanket to help spread the material out inside the boot. Two hook and loop tabs are provided on the corners of the under surface of the blanket to assist in securing it to the material in the boot.
2.) A SLIDER. This has a nylon cover on the external surface that provides a slippery surface for the wheelchair to slide on when handling. The inner surface of the slider is vinyl. The base and rear of the slider contain hard PVC boards to provide support for the wheelchair when sliding. One side of the cover on the base and rear is connected by hook and loop tabs so that the board can be removed when the slider is washed.
Two hook and loop tabs are located on the top corners of the slider to secure the wheelchair during transfers. One hook and loop strap is on the bottom right side to prevent the front wheels of the wheelchair from hanging out past the platform. This strap can be moved to the other side if preferred.
3.) The GROUND PROTECTOR is a rectangular piece of vinyl material with weights stitched into the corners to prevent it from moving. This is placed on the ground to protect the platform material on the slider from getting wet, dirty or deteriorating on rough tarmac or other road surfaces. This has a webbing strap that can attached to the boot blanket with a hook and loop strap, so it is not left behind when driving off.

Method Of Use
TO PUT THE WHEELCHAIR INTO THE BOOT
1) Place the boot blanket into the boot so that the thinner section is spread out inside the boot and the padded foam section is covering the rear of the car. The side with the single strip of slip resistant material is the top. This slip resistant strip should not be on the highest part of the boot. If preferred, the hook and loop straps can be secured to the carpet in the boot.
2) Place the ground protector on the ground.
3) Put the empty slider on the ground protector and undo the hook and loop securing straps on the left side to open the front cover.
4) On the wheelchair, remove or fold back the footplates.
5) Wheel the wheelchair into position and do up the securing strap. Put the brakes on the wheelchair on.
6) Lean the slider against the car boot so that it is just resting on the single slip resistant strip.
7) Use the two front cover handles to lift the slider up. The slider can be rested against the thighs, so the person can walk forward to let the wheelchair slide into the boot.
8) Fold the padded section over the top.
9) Put the ground protector in the boot.
TO REMOVE
1) Place the ground protector on the ground.
2) Drape the padded section of the boot blanket over the rear of the car.
3) The two small webbing handles on the base of the platform can be used to lift the wheelchair onto the lip of the boot.
4) Hold the front cover handles to slide the wheelchair down to the ground.
5) Take off the brakes on the wheelchair.
6) Undo the the top left strap on the slider and remove the wheelchair.
