More Details
Armrests
* Armrests provide sideways support to the trunk, as well as arm support. They give something to hold on to when leaning forwards, and a surface to push on when transferring or shifting position. They also help to prevent clothes from catching in the wheels.
* Armrests may be fixed or removable, flip up or swing aside. Desk style armrests are shorter or lower in front, to allow the wheelchair to be brought close to a table.
* Removing one armrest allows sideways transfers. Removable armrests make * ansporting and storing the chair easier. Usually they slot in and out and fix with a catch.
* Many high performance chairs are available without armrests, which may suit an active user with good balance, and reduces the weight of the chair for people who don't need them.
* Armrests may have tray sockets, or modified pads that are higher on the outside edges to prevent the arms slipping off the armrests.

Mobile Arm Supports
* Mobile arm supports allow people with weak arms to move more freely.
* They consist of a trough on hinged brackets which attaches to the wheelchair and supports the arm in a range of positions, for activities such as eating, typing, writing etc. Movement occurs in either horizontal or horizontal and vertical planes.

Arm Supports
A shaped support that is attached to the armrest of a chair that provides support for a paralysed or weak arm.

Armrest Covers
Armrest covers attach to the armrest to help protect against skin abrasions and to provide extra comfort.
Most wheelchair brands have various optional extras. Contact your wheelchair supplier for details.
