More Details
FOOTRESTS:
. Footrests are usually adjustable. For comfort and good posture, the
footrests must be adjusted to the correct length for the user's legs. The best position is generally with the thighs horizontal and the hips, knees and ankles at right angles. When adjusting the footrests any cushion that will be used must be in place.
. The footrests need to be at least 50mm from the ground to clear obstacles. Tall people who need long footrest hangers may find that the footrests obstruct when climbing kerbs. In this case, a chair with an extra high seat will be needed, or with the footrest hangers set at a greater angle. A cushion may also help, but may make the armrests too low.
. Swing aside and removable footrests help transfers and close access to furniture. Flip up or swing aside footrests are necessary to allow the feet to be placed firmly on the ground during transfers. For sideways transfer, and for transport, it is useful if they can be detached. High performance chairs may have fixed tapered footbars, which for some people may get in the way of the feet during transfers.
ELEVATING LEGRESTS:
. Elevating legrests may be useful for people with permanently stiff knees or swollen legs. Usually adjustable form 0 - 90 degrees.
STUMP SUPPORTS:
. A support that replaces existing footrest. Usually position adjustable and padded, to provide support for either left or right leg stump. Double supports also available.
FOOTPLATE COVERS:
. Padded footplate covers fully enclose footplates so the user is protected when footplates are moved for transfers. eg. sheepskin, foam, fibre filled.
HEEL LOOPS:
. Straps that attach to the rear of the footplate and prevent the feet from slipping off the back of the footplate and under the chair.
FOOT RESTRAINTS:
. Moulded foot restraints designed to maintain the feet in position.
CALF SUPPORTS:
. A strap or pad that attaches to the upright supports of the footplates to provide calf support.
