Short Description
An attendant controlled battery powered stair climber used to transport manual wheelchairs and the occupant up / down stairs. The basic model for a dedicated wheelchair consists of adjustable height handles, power unit and drive wheels. It can be set to climb one or several steps at a time according to the operators capability. Unit dismantles to fit in the back of any vehicle. Options include a Scalaport X6 universal attachment and a Scalachair.

. The stairclimber consists of a motor and two sets of wheels at the base The universal model also has adjustable height handles for the attendant and an adjustable height headrest for the occupant. The upright struts have clamps to secure the machine to the backrest of the wheelchair.
. The climbing action is by two wheels going up one stair, followed by the other pair with the wheelchair. The wheels have automatic brakes, so they will not roll.
. The operating switch is on the push handle, with a speed control. The stepping can be set at continuous or one at a time and stop.
. Scalamobil can negotiate curving circular stairs of many surfaces; carpet, wool, marble, stone, concrete, plastic, metal.
. A training programme is necessary to operate the equipment safely.

SAFETY FEATURES
. Fully automatic mechanical security brakes on each wheel.
. The wheelchair passenger, chair and Scalamobil can be safely parked on any step during ascent or descent.

. Climbing rate: Variable speed control adjustable from 6 - 16 steps per minute.

CONTROLS
. On base (E Box)
- rocker on/off switch
- single step or continuous step switch
- speed dial and soft step for a softer landing

. On handles
- on / off switch, battery indication, lateral adjustment of handles. Toggle up / down switch for climbing stairs
- constant pressure on switch required to operate

CHARGER
The battery charger included adapts itself to different mains voltages from 90 to 240V automatically and can be supplied with worldwide adapter plugs for use overseas.

TRANSPORTING
Can be dismantled into three parts. Fits in all car boots.

Models
SCALAMOBIL
compact unit which is used with a manual wheelchair with removable wheels. The unit is attached with 2 holding devices within the rear of the wheelchair frame.
. The rear wheels of the wheelchair are removed to negotiate stairs.

SCALAPORT X6
combines the Scalamobil with a universal frame capable of holding manual wheelchairs (weight limitations exist, which are applicable to some powered chairs). It also incorporates an adjustable height head support, and adjustable width clamps which fit around the wheelchair upright poles.

SCALACHAIR X3
is a specially designed "easy-to-transfer" chair fitted to the Scalamobil for use on particularly narrow stairs and eg. aeroplane access.
